About the FSA Customer Service Center
The Customer Service Call Center, formerly the Customer Support Branch, was
established in 1994 within the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE), in
response to Executive Order 12862, "Setting Customer Service Standards".
CSCC developed and adopted the following mission statement: "To foster an
improved flow of information and to promote customer service ideals within
the student financial aid community".
Initially the Customer Service Call Center was established as a toll-free
"Help Line" for Title IV program and procedural inquiries from financial aid
professionals. CSCC accumulated a wealth of FSA publications and guidance in
electronic format to enable our staff to research the customer's inquiries.
We soon realized that providing electronic access to this information to our
partners would be a major improvement in providing the tools needed to
efficiently manage the Title IV programs.
In keeping with the latest technology, the FSA Customer Service Call Center
harnessed the power of the Internet to implement the "Information for
Financial Aid Professionals" (IFAP) website. This website has been an
invaluable tool and serves as the "reference library" for the FSA4Schools website, your gateway to all Title IV Federal Student Financial Aid information and programs.
More About IFAP
The IFAP website became effective in March, 1998, replacing the electronic
Bulletin Board System (FSA BBS) in June, 1998. IFAP was then converted to a
more robust platform in November, 2000.
A scrolling text bar was added to the IFAP homepage in March, 1999, which is called "FSA News." This was our first solution to inform our customers of "hot topics" in Student Financial Assistance. We've removed the scrolling text bar in favor of a static menu of news items, per the requests of our customers.
We also developed and implemented a "subscribe" feature for IFAP. All
partners who have registered with us through "Member Services" will
automatically receive a weekly electronic mail message, which advises of
the latest postings to IFAP. Alternately, the subscription features are
customized by selecting from among three additional subscribe options.
We are continuing to incorporate improvements to the IFAP site. As the
need for more information continues to grow, so will IFAP. The homepage
has been redesigned twice since its first introduction to the financial aid
community, based upon comments/suggestions from our customers.
We are committed to providing timely, accurate information to you in the
administration of the Title IV Student Financial Assistance Programs.
