Citations: (R)652.30 AsOfDate: 12/31/95 How are Scholars nominated? (a) Scholars are nominated by State nominating committees that are established in accordance with Sec. 652.20. (b) Each State nominating committee shall review and evaluate the applications received each year under this program. (c) Each State nominating committee shall select nominees in accordance with the program eligibility requirements for an initial award. Each State nominating committee may adopt one or more minimum standards to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement at the secondary school level that may include such standards as an overall minimum grade point average or a minimum class rank combined with a minimum grade point average in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering. (d) Each State nominating committee shall submit to the President the nominations of at least four applicants legally residing in each congressional district in the State, at least half of whom must be female. The nominations must be-- (1) Ranked in order of evaluated score; and (2) Submitted to the Secretary, who receives the nominations on behalf of the President, in the manner and by the date established by the Secretary in a notice published in the Federal Register. (e) Each nominating committee shall provide the following information for each nominee to the Secretary: (1) Name. (2) Sex. (3) Address. (4) Telephone number. (5) Social security number (if provided by the nominee). (6) Congressional district and name of Representative or Delegate. (7) Other information that the Secretary considers necessary for the proper administration of the program.
